Colman fait route, Boissières à moins de 80 milles des Sables

Sous gréement de fortune, Conrad Colman progresse à une vitesse de 3 à 4 nœuds en faisant
cap sur les Sables d’Olonne où il pourrait arriver d’ici 8 à 10 jours. Désormais à moins de
à moins de 80 milles du but (au pointage de 9h), Arnaud Boissières est attendu entre ce soir
et demain matin sur la ligne. Sa remontée du chenal s’annonce festive… On peut espérer deux
autres arrivées ce week-end, celles de Fabrice Amedeo (samedi) et d’Alan Roura (dimanche).

Under such a jury rig, the ideal is moderate winds at an angle of greater than 90 degrees.
Colman is likely to avoid the southern part of the Bay of Biscay where the wind will be
light and blowing from the East from Saturday. It looks more likely that he would sail
northward to position himself north of the Azores high and the associated ridge. He could
then sail in westerly winds which will strengthen over the next few days and will push him
towards the finish line in Les Sables d'Olonne by the end of next week.

Gréement de fortune en place pour Conrad Colman !

Excellente nouvelle pour Conrad Colman qui est parvenu à installer un gréement de fortune
à l’aide de sa bôme et d’un morceau de grand-voile récupéré suite à son démâtage survenu
vendredi dernier. Arnaud Boissières est de son côté tout proche d’un immense exploit :
terminer le Vendée Globe trois fois de suite. Au pointage de 5h, il n’était plus qu’à 285
milles des Sables d’Olonne. Mais le final s’annonce complexe, au près dans les petits airs.
Arnaud est attendu sur la ligne entre jeudi soir et vendredi matin, à la 10e place. Quelle
que soit l’heure du jour ou de la nuit, il recevra un accueil triomphal.

Colman under sail, Boissières slowed by upwind finish

Since last night Conrad Colman has been back under sail, albeit making just 3kts of boat
speed to the north west, but the Kiwi skipper whose mast broke four days ago has
successfully set a jury rig now fashioned from the bottom of the mainsail of Foresight
Natural Energy. According to his team he has not yet managed to set a foresail but intends
to. He has already crossed the course he was taking when his mast fell.

Hogy meglódult! Na, nem szemtelenkedek, hatalmasat küzd itt minden versenyző, sajnálom szegényt. A versenytáv első felében végig Nándival vívott nagy csatát, s a mostani szenvedése is megsüvegelendő, sokan már föladták volna ...

 Colman rigging jury mast

Conrad Colman reported last night that he has made positive steps in establishing a jury rig
on his dismasted Foresight Natural Energy. By last night he had finished the repairs to the
boom and cut and set up the standing rigging and was looking to a long night of sailmaking,
cutting the bottom part of his mainsail to fashion a sail to allow him to make good use of
the faourable southerly breezes. The forecast shows southerly and south westerly breezes to
Friday at least.

Eric Bellion 9th in the Vendée Globe, first rookie

From one of the most prolonged and challenging storms encountered by any of the 29 skippers
who left Les Sables d’Olonne on Sunday November 6th last year, French solo skipper Eric Bellion
emerged triumphant, securing a remarkable ninth placed in the Vendée Globe solo round the world
race when he crossed the finish line at 1658hrs UTC. Bellion took 99 days 4 hrs 56 mins for his
actual 28,048 miles route, averaging 11.78 kts. He is the first ‘rookie’ solo skipper – someone
who had never before started the Vendée Globe - to complete this eighth edition of the solo
round the world race.
